Welcome Letter

Dear Students and Families of Room 33,

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year. It gives me immense pleasure to introduce myself to you. I am looking forward to getting to know you and interacting with you and your children. As your son or daughter’s teacher, it is my goal to help him/her become a confident learner and I will do my best to help make this year a positive experience for your child.

My legal name is Saranyan Subhasree but I prefer Shuba pronounced (Shoe - baa). Long story short, my last name is my given birth name and my first name, Saranyan is my father's given name. Shuba is short for Subhasree and it is easy for the students to say.

Schedule/Drop-off & Pick-up
Our class will begin at 8:30 AM and end at 2:45 PM (except Wednesdays early release 1:30). Parents wait behind the yellow lines for drop off and pick up your student. For AM drop-off, students will wait in line on the playground outside room 33. Parents are not allowed onto the playground unless they have a visitors pass. For PM pick-up, please wait for your child by the flagpole area outside the office. Students who ride the bus will be escorted or monitored by a teacher to and from the bus. When entering school grounds during the instructional day, please sign in at the office and get a visitors’ pass first. Visitor passes allow staff to identify dangerous strangers.

If your student arrives to school after we have started the Pledge of Allegiance, they will need to go to the office for a tardy pass. This is a school wide enforced rule.  If your student is going to be absent, please call the school (510-793-8660) and follow their prompts to report your student’s absence.

Each student will receive a DAILY PURPLE FOLDER and a yellow Warwick Wednesday folder.  Every day, the PURPLE FOLDER will be sent home with a behavior report, information, completed work, AND HOMEWORK. Please remove and read the contents everyday and RETURN THE PURPLE FOLDER TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY. On Wednesday, school news will go home in your student’s yellow Warwick folder. Please return the yellow Warwick folder each week on Thursday.
Please note that individual mainstreaming opportunities will begin at the earliest- in mid to late September.

Homework will include a total of 50 minutes reading log per week and other assignments that were not completed in class. When worksheets are marked C/R, it means correct and return and when worksheets are marked F/R, it means finish and return. The deadline to return these will be determined on an individual basis.

Label Your Student’s Belongings
Every year students lose many of their belongings.  Please label your student’s things such as backpack, lunch box, and jackets.

I believe a hungry student cannot learn.  Please send a healthy snack/lunch with your student daily for them to eat during their recess. Please refrain from sending unhealthy food for lunch or snacks. Please be aware that some students may have severe food allergies so sharing food will not be permitted. It is equally important for students to stay hydrated, especially on hot days. Please send your child with a water bottle and/or a cap.

Parent involvement and contribution is invaluable to our class and is deeply appreciated. I encourage you to contact me if you can contribute with your time, supplies, or money. Please see the supplies wish list for my class this year. Though it is optional, I humbly request you to send your student with necessary stationary supplies. I have purchased many of our school supplies in advance. Any donations to help cover the cost of classroom supplies are appreciated. If you use a check please make the donation check payable to Warwick Elementary School and I will provide a receipt.

Emergency Forms/School Documents
Please fill out all of the Warwick emergency and other forms and return them as soon as possible.  In case of emergency, it is crucial we have your current contact information on file.  I will be sending some interest inventories with your child. Please take some time to fill out the forms and send it back asap.
I am so excited for this school year and can’t wait to create wonderful memories while learning and interacting with your child! I use the remind app on the smart phone or remind to communicate with parents on a regular basis. I have added all of you to a classroom account on remind. You can download this app and you will be automatically added to the classroom. If you change your number please let me know so I can add it to the classroom. It is also important to update your contact numbers in case it changes. Please delete any obsolete numbers from the class list on your phone as well. Using remind app, is the best way for a quick response from me. In the past, parents and I have kept open communication which has proven successful for our students. Therefore, I encourage you to communicate with me through remind to get immediate response.

Looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!
